In the middle of nowhere, not able to find in maps, the upper Dolpo has something to for everyone even you are not interested in trekking through high up in remote lands.

The region closely related with Tibetan plateau, unexplored, pristine and filled with rugged trails. The upper Dolpo is far from any tourism infrastructure and influences of modernization. The isolated region holding oldest monastery, Shey Gompa reflecting the influences of Tibetan Buddhism. Witnessing the hunt of Yarchgumba, a territory for trekkers who admire natural, cultural beauty and a value of peace and tranquility.

Starting from small airfield at Jufal and passing through small, scattered settlements filled with views of lush forest, diverse flora and fauna accompanied by various mountains, the lush forest guiding us to Shey Phoksundo Lake. Spending our days in the vicinity of pristine lakes, we ascend through Nagdala La (52509 m) to reach Shey Gompa (4343 m). It hosts an ancient monastery and the region where the Oscar nominated movie “Himalaya” was shot. We then pass through Sela La (5095 m) and Jyanta La (5220 m) to reach the settlement in lower Dolpo.

This isolated deserted wilderness trek is situated in rain shadow of Dhaulagiri, Chureni himal, Gurja himal and many more mountains. The high chance of spotting snow leopard as well as Himalayan blue sheep, Pheasants, wild asses, yaks, antelopes and much more. The place provides amazing experience for wildlife enthusiasts as well.

The Kang-la pass (5306m) connecting Phoksundo valley and Shey gompa which is the highest pint of the trek and provides magnificent views of landscapes and mountains are seen. The visit to Shey gompa accompanied by amazing views of wilderness amazes you with the feel of peace and personal charm with the views it holds.

Upper Dolpo trek is an adventurous trekking in the remote landscape of western Nepal. Walking along the ancient salt trading route, we come across picturesque Shey Phoksundo Lake, various high passes and majestic mountains. The arid landscape between the Dhaulagiri massif and Tibetan plateau is rich in ancient Tibetan Buddhist culture. Various artistic monasteries including Shey- Gumpa, enrolled in prayers flags and traditional lifestyles of the local ethnic communities are in the pristine form.

About weather

The region of Dolpo undergoes significance changes with the change in seasons. The summers are not to warm and winters are frosty obviously. The optimum trekking period are during springs (April to June) and autumn (September to November). Winter is frosty yet if you are passionate trekker then its fine. Foods and accommodation

Most of the days you will have camping food. The foods are prepared by our fellow team member who will be trekking with you. We will provide you alpine dishes that satisfy your palate and meet the nutritional requirement in order to take further. You will have soups, noodles, dalbhat, pasta, vegetables (green and seasonal) and lot more.

Most of the days you will have to spend your night at tented camps of locals as well as camps made by our crew. You will have clean and cozy camps. Sleeping inside sleeping bags for most of the days will be an amazing experience. Tea houses are available, which is very less but depending on volume of visitors we may or may not be able to arrange the rooms at guesthouses available. If you make your mind then this trek will be piece of cake filled with amazing experience.
